National Mental Health Consumer Carer Forum Research Released

September 12, 2017

Dr Robyn Martin and Dr Kate Dorozenko attended The Mental Health Services (TheMHS) conference in Sydney last week where an important piece of their research work was launched; “A Critical Literature Review of the Direct, Adverse Effects of Neuroleptic Drugs”.  This work was commissioned by the National Mental Health Consumer and Carer Forum under the auspices of Mental Health Australia. The research found that the perspectives of those with lived experience of antipsychotic drugs were rarely reported.

Please visit this link to find out more about the work; https://nmhccf.org.au/publication/media-release-launch-whatyou-may-not-know-about-antipsychotics and visit this link to listen to Kate’s interview with Radio National’s AM program; http://www.abc.net.au/radio/programs/am/call-to-limit-prescriptions-of-antipsychotics/8866076

You are invited to attend the launch of the research!

The launch will provide an overview of the findings and open up dialogue around the lived experience of antipsychotic (neuroleptic) drugs for individuals and families with presentations from Deb Sobott, Professor Kathy Boxall and Dr Nathan Gibson. Refreshments and opportunities to discuss the report will be available after the launch at 7:30pm.

Electronic copies of the report and booklet are available on the NMHCCF website: https://nmhccf.org.au/ and a limited number of hard copies of both documents will be available on the night.
