Strong Interest and Support for Peer Support Shared in Second Alternatives to Suicide Forum
August 10, 2017
The second Alternatives to Suicide forum was hosted on Monday 30th July 2017 with CoMHWA attending as a member of the Alternatives to Suicide Steering Committee.
The Steering Committee, which is hosted by Mercycare with representatives from CoMHWA, Helping Minds, Calleja Consulting, Connect Groups and the Centre for Aboriginal Medical and Dental Health (UWA),is guiding the development work ahead in enabling training and a sustainable model for the roll out of Alternatives to Suicide peer support groups in Western Australia.
A key focus of the forum was on sharing the evaluation results of the first forum, providing an update on the Committee’s work to date, and to hearing the views of people passionate and committed to the Alternatives to Suicide approach in order to guide and assist the Committee’s work.
The forum was attended by many people passionate and committed to seeing Alternatives to Suicide established in a way that can respond urgently to the gap in peer support for people at risk of suicide, and is also sufficiently resourced and supported to make a broad and significant contribution to a diverse range of community members who experience thoughts of suicide, their family members and carers.
